My Corona! (Coronavirus, that is)
No, I don't have it, thankfully. I am also lucky enough to be working from home. Roughly one year and 8 months until I can leave the state, but who's counting. Me. That's who. But working from home is making it more bearable. Although I have found that I work tremendously harder when working from home, as there are very few distractions at home. No doubt my shitty agency will pull me right back in as soon as they possibly can, as they're already monitoring us like crazy... Skype, working via VPN-only, e-mail must be sent in the morning ("morning check-in"), all e-mails, phone calls, and online meetings must be logged, and then a daily status report must be sent at the end of the day that includes all your accomplishments for that day. It's annoying that they feel we must be monitored so heavily, but that's nothing compared to the fact that we were told we would be disciplined if we left the state! Weird, eh? I always thought my weekends were my own. Not so, says the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice!
So if you work for Kentucky, you can be disciplined if you leave the state (for violating Governor Beshear's executive order), but if you have a private employer... no problem! Go wherever you want! So if you've read my blog so far, you have probably figured out... don't ever work for Kentucky. Kentucky sucks as an employer.
One year, 8 months. One year, 8 months...
And actually, if my finances are in order, I am eligible for retirement now. But the penalty is really too much, so I will probably hang on as long as possible. The longer I stay, the less I am penalized, the greater my pension, and the more I have paid on my two houses. That means a greater down payment when I refinance my house down south, the smaller debt I have to pay off on the second home, and the closer my vehicle payment is to being paid off. Other than the negative of getting old and eventually dying, time is on my side.
So... let's see how long I can hang in there. As long as I don't get coronavirus, I guess I will be trucking along for the next couple of years.
